Screen Addiction – A growing concern

But the addiction towards the gadgets is not only seen in children but it is very prominent in adults as well. Research conducted by various groups says that the excessive use of mobile phones and exposure to the screen can lead to a disorder called screen dependency disorder.
The concept and diagnostic criteria derive from pathological gambling and substance related addictions and are often based on the amount of time spent engaging in a screen activity.
The screen addiction includes excessive internet use, pathological video gaming, online game addiction, excessive messaging, social media use and porn addiction.
The US department of Health has issued recommended limits for screen time as one of its national health improvement priorities and a key disease prevention objective.
The American Psychiatric Association DSM -5 has proposed a provisional diagnostic criteria set for Internet gaming disorder based on how much time is spent playing the games, and how much they compromise a person’s overall functioning.

How you can get rid of screen addiction?
First you have to admit that this addiction is a problem. Screen addiction is believed to be a largely treatable condition. The goal of treatment is usually not complete abstinence.
Cognitive behavior therapy, self-help treatment groups, group therapy and family therapy are considered as the effective methods for the treatment of screen addiction.
